We at Kerecis create tremendous value from a small amount of waste, and the benefits are far-reaching and often immeasurable. Our innovation in Iceland and operations worldwide allow doctors to heal patients, to the benefit of families, friends and entire communities. Everyone has an interest in sustaining our value creation and the factors that contribute to it.

We operate our production in the Westfjords, an area in the Arctic known for its commitment to environmental protection. As a leading employer in the town of Isafjordur, we create life-saving value from waste as we produce medical devices from locally procured, certified sustainably sourced fish. Our manufacturing requires no harsh chemicals that might harm the environment, and it uses exclusively clean, renewable energy.

The three elements of environmental, social and governance (ESG) sustainability resonate deeply with us and guide us as we fulfil our vision and mission. All three factors are essential to our multifaceted, multidimensional value creation that extends far beyond financial profit.

We officially integrated ESG into our business strategy in 2020. This integration has been, among other things, a means to benchmark and measure the results of our strategy against key sustainability performance indicators (KPIs). Our KPIs are mostly non-financial in nature. The results has been overwhelmingly positive.

At Kerecis, we source our fish skin from Atlantic Cod, responsibly harvested in Iceland’s pristine waters. Our suppliers’ fisheries are certified by Iceland Responsible Fisheries Management (IRFM), ensuring sustainable practices.

Our fish skin supplier holds the prestigious British Retail Consortium (BRC) certification, a vital standard for any food processing company. Furthermore, our supplier is recognized as an EU and FDA-approved processor, emphasizing our dedication to meeting international regulatory standards.
