Over the past several years, Iceland has emerged as a vibrant center for medical and scientific innovation, with Kerecis at the forefront in the area of wound healing and tissue repair.
The discovery of intact fish skin grafts and research on its surgical applications has led surgeons to develop new treatment protocols that have changed the way they practice reconstructive surgery. In this symposium, practitioners will gather to present surgical techniques and their corresponding treatment algorithms that are designed to shorten length of stay in hospital and reduce the need for autografting.
The Philadelphia Surgical Symposium will take place on February 21st – 22nd, 2025. The chairs of the symposium will be joined by clinical proctors to demonstrate the application techniques along with other reconstructive best practices. The symposium’s purpose is to receive hands-on training on the application of intact fish skin grafts and muscle and cutaneous flaps. This will be done through a proctor-led lab. Further, the didactic session intends to disseminate clinical best practices and applications and discuss future regenerative research.

Standard fare air travel, meals, and lodging are covered by Kerecis for attending doctors and medical professionals for the duration of the workshop. Travel has to be booked by Kerecis; self-booked travel arrangements will not be reimbursed. Kerecis does not pay for family members and/or spouses.
Government employees are not eligible to participate in this event without prior written approval.
The Philadelphia Surgical Symposium is a one evening, one morning event open to eligible surgeons. Air travel*, meals and lodging for those one night is covered by Kerecis for participating doctors and medical professionals.

Dr. Tobias Long is a board-certified plastic and reconstructive surgeon practicing out of Reading, PA. Dr. Long earned his medical degree at Penn State College of Medicine in Hershey, PA in 2012. He then completed his plastic surgery integrated residency at University Hospitals Case Medical Center in Cleveland, Ohio from 2012-2018. Following his residency, he worked with the University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center Plastic Surgery Department until 2021 before moving back to Pennsylvania.
Currently, Dr. Long serves as the Division Chief of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at Penn State Health, St Joseph Medical Center. He is also Director of Wound Care and Regenerative Medicine and serves as a Clinical Assistant Professor for PennState College of Medicine. Dr. Long specializes in all aspects of plastic and reconstructive surgery, including breast reconstruction, cosmetic surgery, and wound care. He has published and presented numerous scientific articles pertaining to his plastic surgery specialty.
Dr. Miglietta has over 6 years of experience as the Director of Medical Education and Program Director for a General Surgery residency at Palisades Medical Center, where he established 11 residency programs. He specializes in trauma and general surgery, having served as Chief of the Division of Trauma and Critical Care at NYU School of Medicine and directing trauma services at Bellevue Hospital. Additionally, he founded and led the Homeland Security Mobile Trauma Unit.
Cori Rogers, MD, is a board-certified plastic surgeon with fellowship training in hand surgery. She practices at WakeMed Health & Hospitals in her hometown of Raleigh, NC. Her practice is a mixture of general plastic & reconstructive surgery including trauma, burn, chronic wound, and oncologic reconstruction with focuses on lower extremity salvage and hand surgery.
She launched her academic career at Appalachian State University in Boone NC, graduated with her bachelor’s and then went to medical school at University of Tennessee College of Medicine in Memphis, TN. She completed her residency in integrated plastic surgery, at Indiana University College of Medicine in Indianapolis, IN. She completed a hand and upper extremity fellowship at the University of Alabama at Birmingham-Andrews Sports Medicine Institute in Birmingham, AL.
Dr. Rogers aims to give patients the best care possible. She acknowledges that everyone has a life full of other commitments, exciting life events and, unfortunately, also challenges. In understanding this, Dr. Rogers works to make patient care as seamless as possible to get patients back to the people and activities they enjoy most.
The Philadelphia Surgical Symposium is a one-evening, one-morning event. For attending surgeons, Kerecis covers standard airfare, one night’s lodging, and meals for the duration of the workshop in return for full participation in the symposium and the follow-up surveys. Kerecis does not pay or reimburse for travel arrangements for family members, including spouses.
